Dental Assistant (Part-time) - The Opal Dental Co.
Position Summary: Supports the dentist during procedures, ensures smooth clinical operations, and maintains a clean, safe, and efficient environment for patients and staff.
Hours: (approx. 25-32 hours per week) M, Tu, Th (Wednesday as needed)
Core Responsibilities
Chairside Assistance
Prepare patients for dental procedures (set up, review health history, comfort them).Assist dentist during exams, fillings, crowns, extractions, etc.Hand instruments, mix materials, manage suction, and take notes during treatment.
Patient Care
Take and develop dental X-rays (if certified).Instruct patients on post-op care, oral hygiene, and follow-up visits.Maintain a calm and professional presence with anxious patients.
Sterilization & Equipment Maintenance
Sterilize and disinfect instruments and operatories.Prepare trays and rooms for each procedure.Monitor inventory of supplies and submit reorder requests.
Administrative Support
Enter treatment notes accurately in patient records (Eaglesoft, Dentrix, Open Dental, etc.).Update patient health history forms.Occasionally assist with scheduling or insurance documentation if needed.
Compliance
Follow OSHA, HIPAA, and infection control standards.Maintain certifications (CPR, X-ray permit, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
Dental Assistant certification (CODA or on-the-job experience).
X-ray certification for Wisconsin.
Minimum 1–2 years dental assisting experience preferred.
Knowledge of dental terminology, instruments, and chairside techniques.Strong interpersonal and multitasking skills.
Pay Range $20–25/hr, depending on experience and certification.

Pay: $50.00 - $56.00 per hour
Expected hours: 6 – 24 per week
Duties
Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing teeth. Educate patients on oral hygiene practices and the importance of preventive care.Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) as needed.Maintain accurate medical records and document patient treatments in compliance with state and federal regulations.Utilize aseptic techniques to ensure a clean and safe environment for patients. Monitor vital signs and assess patient comfort levels during treatments.Stay updated on dental terminology, anatomy knowledge, and medical imaging practices relevant to the field.Collaborate with the dental team to enhance patient care and streamline clinic operations.

Qualifications
Valid state license to practice as a Registered Dental Hygienist. (Preferred, or working towards a license, we can help.)
Dental Hygienist experience (PREFERRED)
English fluency, (Both Spanish/English fluency is a huge plus!)
Knowledge of dental assisting practices is an advantage.
Strong understanding of dental terminology, anatomy, and aseptic techniques.
Ability to take accurate medical records and perform medical imaging tasks.
Excellent communication skills with a focus on patient education and comfort.
Strong attention to detail and ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
